Strava to Garmin: send your Strava routes to a Garmin

Planned a ride in Strava and want it turn-by-turn on your Garmin? Garmin devices don't pull routes straight from Strava, so the reliable way is a GPX file. Export GPX saves any of your Strava routes or activities — including private ones — as a standard GPX on your Android phone, ready to import into Garmin Connect and sync to an Edge, Forerunner or Fenix. Free, no computer needed.

Step by step

  1. Install Export GPX (free) from Google Play.
  2. Sign in with Strava. Strava's own login page opens inside the app — the app never sees your password.
  3. Pick a route or activity. Switch between Routes and Activities and choose the one you want on your Garmin; a map preview confirms it.
  4. Tap GPX. A standard .gpx file is saved wherever you choose.
  5. Import it into Garmin Connect. Open Training & Planning → Courses → Import, choose the GPX, then send the course to your device.

On the Garmin itself

Once the course has synced, find it on the device: on an Edge open Navigation → Courses; on a Forerunner or Fenix open Navigation → Courses (or Training → Courses). Start it and you get turn prompts and an off-course alert.
